Over at ZD Net they are showing the most popular blogging sites based on Nielson research.
No surprise that blogger is top of the tree as this is free and so easy to use, this is the platform I started on at MabelandHarry. I still believe this is a great entry level model.
My main site The Engaging Brand (and of course The Podcast Sisters!) I host on typepad...I must say I love Typepad. Typepad is great for non geeks like me, OK it does not have the power of Wordpress but it really needs NO programming ability. The rise of Wordpress over the last year, I believe illustrates the increase in understanding of how powerful blogs can be and the move of companies to a blogging format rather than website.
Whatever platform you choose, remember to have a look at what your long term plan looks like...if you plan to really extend the blog to be a fully functional website then I would suggest Wordpress. It is hard to change - without losing links - so it is worth thinking about what you may want from the site in the future.
