Business blogging is a subject I just love to talk about, particularly as it is such a low cost resource for building your corporate brand, your employer brand and personla brand online, even if you have little time and no technical expertise.
In our recent show at The Podcast Sisters we talked about the different blogging platforms we use and the reasons why we chose them.
We also promised to post how business blogging has supported our success and what mistakes we have made.
So here are my biggest successes to-date that I attribute to business blogging and what I think I have learnt on my journey in business blogging.
My biggest successes in business blogging
- Building my personal brand online - As you may be aware, my name "Krishna" is very popular online as it is the name of a Hindu god. in fact when I established my business what I quickly learnt was that the Hindu god has been online longer than I had. So how could I ensure that if people searched for me online they would find me. You see over 35% of people look for us by name not just the company we work for, and if they do not find us in the first page or two of th search engines they will often move on.
Authoring a business blog at Biz Growth News with articles about branding and business development for professional services firms has meant that people no longer have to look to hard to find me. yes there are other strategies I have deployed to enhance my visibility in the search engines, but business blogging has been a major contributor to my online success.
- Marketing my expertise while I sleep - through my business blog articles and my radio show and corporate podcast shows for example at Todays Women in Business, I have found that many people have sought me out as an expert in my field. this has included journalists who are looking for quotes in the major press (including The Times, The Irish Independent and the Wall Street Journal) through to event organisers for major conferences.
This has come about through them researching online and finding relevant and compelling content which has encouraged me to contact them. That's right - business blogging has enabled me to attract free publicty without having to pitch myself to the media. How cool is that!
My biggest learning in business blogging
Well there are so many learnings I have had, but I have to say that one of my biggest learnings has to be that when I started business blogging, I did so in my own little blogging bubble.
You see I did not realise the power of connecting to other bloggers online through commenting on their articles and contributing to blog carnivals.
I thought it was sufficient to write great articles and that is how I would increase my visibility on the web.
I realised after a number of months (actually I'm too embarrassed to mention how long it took me!) that collaborating and connecting online would support my vision of success in building my personal brand and corporate brand online.
Once I implemented these strategies I saw a dramatic increase in traffic to my website.
My continuing challenge however is being consistent in implementing these strategies - especially contributing to carnivals, unlike the queen of the carnivals, co-host here at The Podcast Sisters, Anna!
So in face this week when we recorded the show this week which was all about building traffic to your blog, I was personally inspired to take the next step and host three new blog carnivals:
So if you want to join me on the journey of building more traffic to yout business blog, I hope you will join me or Anna in one of our carnivals.
I hope you enjoy the next Podcast Sisters show when we post in in the next few days as we had fun recording it. I also hope that you find we are providing value and support in your journey into the world of the web. i know for me, whilst I'm a host it's also continuing my development and supporting me in building my personal brand online.
